Shortstop Rankings: RotoGraphs Consensus

Tiered Ranks: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, NL OF, AL SP, NL SP, Holds.

Oh Dee Gordon! Expect more Dee Gordon coverage. Because that guy is a buck-twenty-five soaking wet, can’t take a walk to save his life, and might have problems getting out of a paper bag with a bat. But he’s got elite speed and plays shortstop, so he’ll be an important player worth considering from different angles. Emilio Bonifacio might not actually play the position in real life, but he can join this particular party.

The rest of the list features a lot of agreement, even if some of us like Tyler Pastornicky a little more than others. Jhonny Peralta could regress and still be pretty valuable, so it’s not surprising that he showed up in different slots on the list. Oh, and look at this — the Mets fan once again hates on the Mets guy on the rankings. Something something self-hatred. But Ruben Tejada has maybe .280/20 upside, and even if Ryan Theriot (lite) with a glove is useful for a Major League team, it might not be great for your fantasy team.

The shortstops!

For the love of god stop hyping Dee Gordon! Stop it! I want my steals cheaper.

  2. kid says:

I’m too scared to take Tulo, Hanley or Reyes, yet too prideful to take Alexei, Jeets or Peralta. Thus, I own Yunel.

  3. Rorish says:

Guys, Gordon is trendy – hype him so people pay a lot for him. He is a very fast kid, but besides speed (plenty) theres is nothing else, maybe a 290 average but even that is optimistic. He is a 1 category player. Some of you ranked him ahead of Cabrera, who even with a 70-15-65-15 270 line is better then him. I even prefer J.J.Hardy then him. Anyway, thats the beauty of it, otherwise we would all dress yellow.

I on the other hand waited until the end, and spent $1 on Zach Cozart. Will it pay off? Most definitely not

I think Gordon could easily be the biggest bust in fantasy baseball this year since he is being drafted so aggressively. Even if he does end up stealing 60 it won’t come with all that much value since he will hurt you in RBI/HR and quite possibly AVG.

I don’t think SS is shallow at all either. It is just bottom heavy. Just like C in a 12 team league being bottom heavy means you can let it slide until late rounds. To me I absolutely hate going out of the top 6 rounds without filling my 1B/3B this season because the talent just dries up so fast after the early rounds. There is always a fairly valued SS sitting there at almost every round, the talent just isn’t top heavy like the CI are.

So you’d rather have Erick Aybar and Alcedis Escobar than Billy Butler, Ike Davis, Mark Reynolds, David Freese etc. Cool

  6. Keystone Heavy says:

Is there a chance that Hanley totally gives up the SS label on ESPN/Yahoo if Reyes never budges from the spot? I’m not really familiar with how they do that.
