Ubaldo Jimenez Prediction Contest Results

After he got off to a 9-1 start with a 0.88 ERA, I asked readers to predict Ubaldo Jimenez for the rest of the season.

Jimenez ended up with 10 W, 153 Ks, a 3.83 ERA and a 1.264 WHIP. We had two people who came up with pretty good predictions for Jimenez. They were:

Elgato7664: 11 W, 138 Ks, 3.78 ERA, 1.24 WHIP
Toffer Peak 10 W, 130 Ks, 3.50 ERA, 1.28 WHIP

Vote in the comments for which one you think did better.

And I would be remiss if I did not mention that RoS ZiPS projected Jimenez for 11 wins and a 3.84 ERA, which was just about perfect. If only Jimenez had picked up a win instead of a no-decision on his last game of the year, when he pitched eight shutout innings, Dan Szymborski would have hit one out of the park.

      agreed, Elgato7664 was closer on ERA & K’s. He gets the prize, and I get the kick in the ass for not trading high. Good Job.
      Any predictions for next season on Mr. Jimenez?

    If we look at how far off each was in terms of percent of Ubaldo’s actual numbers, then:

    Elgato7664 = 1/10 +15/153 +0.05/3.83 + 0.024/1.264 = 0.230*

    Toffer Peak = 0/10 + 23/153 + 0.33/3.83 + 0.016/1.264 = 0.249

    Wow. Give them both presents.

    Yeah, Elgato7664 was probably closer, but vote for me and I’ll totally let you use the hot tub that I win. The winner gets a hot tub, right?

    awesome article. Elgato clearly wins but both lose to zips.

    Yeah I’d definitely say the top one was closer even though they were both great predictions. He was quite a bit closer on ERA, closer on K’s and just slightly further away on WHIP. He didn’t match the W’s correctly like the bottom poster but I think how close he was in ERA and closer in K’s makes up for it.

    It’s amazing that ZIPS beat the field. I would have taken the field 100 times out of 100.

    I had Jimenez and Strassburg on my fantasy team and traded both at the all-star break for Halladay. I made out like a bandit.
