Profile: Jose Iglesias churns out hit after hit after hit just like his estranged father* Enrique once did. Except his batting average on balls in play (BABIP) caved in in 2016, causing his average to collapse in tow. It's important that his batting average rebounds, given it's all he's really got in terms of (non-defensive) value. Fortunately, he is currently baseball's premier contact hitter, which is why he owns one of the league's lowest strikeout rates. He makes some of the weakest contact in the game, but he makes the best of it by keeping the ball on the ground (and using his speed to leg out infield hits) and by spraying the ball to all fields. It's not a perfect profile, but Iglesias has optimized an otherwise underwhelming skill set. His remarkably consistent peripherals support the argument that his downer BABIP was an anomaly and his batting average will again flirt with .300 in 2017. Hes a poor man's Jose Ramirez or DJ LeMahieu, or maybe a regular man's Joe Panik or Martin Prado - all average, modest speed, and little power. He's a low-end AL-only (or deep mixed) shortstop, albeit one who should come dirt cheap given his down year. (Alex Chamberlain) *not his father

The Quick Opinion: Iglesias is the league's premier contact hitter, and he uses his nuanced skill set to his advantage. With his anomalous 2016 BABIP behind him, he is poised to resume hitting .300, albeit with virtually no power. He makes for a cheap, solid back-end shortstop in AL-only and deep mixed leagues.
