Profile: Players like Rupp are the reason teams stick with seemingly mediocre prospects. While climbing through the Phillies farm system, Rupp consistently did just enough to move to the next level. That eventually culminated in his 2013 debut. Last year, his batting average on balls and play and isolated power surged - thanks to some fluky-looking lefty mashing - bringing his batting line up to league average. The red flags in the profile include a high strikeout rate and a sub-optimal distribution of grounders, liners, and fly balls. To take another step forward, he'll want to tidy up his plate discipline and make more contact. If his 2016 gains turn out to be "gains," he'll probably decline to be around 80% as good as league average. That's still playable from the catcher position. Now 28, Rupp appears to be warming the seat for Jorge Alfaro, who's probably a full year away from a legitimate shot to dethrone Rupp. (Brad Johnson)

The Quick Opinion: Rupp has decent power and little else to recommend him. He's likely to post a low average and OBP. He probably won't lose his job in 2017, but he may have stiff competition beginning in 2018.
