Profile: In his first two months as a major leaguer back in 2012, Josh Rutledge hit seven home runs, and people got a little bit excited. Fast forward to the end of the 2016 season, and Rutledge has only hit 13 additional home runs in the four seasons and one month since. There are a couple of ways of looking at this. On the one hand, he's just one of 2,568 players to hit 20 home runs or more in the major leagues. On the other, less generous hand, he's been a sub-replacement player across five major league seasons. Relegated to back-up duty, he'll only see significant time in Boston if multiple infielders go down with injuries, and even then, his playing time wouldn't be assured. He didn't hit horribly last season, but his 96 wRC+ was largely fueled by a .433 batting average on balls in play. Once an intriguing young infielder, Rutledge will now have to fight to maintain a utility role, and as such is not someone worth targeting for your fantasy roster.

The Quick Opinion: The last time Josh Rutledge logged more than 100 plate appearances in a season was 2014. Don't expect him to break that streak in 2017.
