Profile: d’Arnaud was a bit of a journeyman before last season, racking up 175 plate appearances in 75 games for the Pirates and Phillies between 2011-15 (although he did not play in the Major Leagues in ‘13). The infielder finally latched on with Atlanta last year, his age-29 season, setting career highs with 84 games played and 262 plate appearances. Although d’Arnaud appeared at shortstop, third base, second base, and all three outfield positions, he did not impress at the plate, hitting just .245/.317/.335 with his first career home run. The silver lining is that d’Arnaud did swipe nine bases (while being caught three times), and his 9% walk rate was decent. His minor league numbers are not particularly inspiring either with a .682 OPS in six Triple-A campaigns. Looking ahead, d’Arnaud is expected to fill a utility role for the rebuilding Braves again, and his modest upside with the bat combined with lack of a consistent starting role means his fantasy value is limited to some minor speed in very deep formats at best. The Quick Opinion: d’Arnaud is a career journeyman that finally settled in with a utility role for Atlanta last year, and his fantasy performance lived up to that kind of profile. About to play in his age-30 season, the versatile infielder can be left on the waiver wire in all but the deepest of leagues.
