Profile: The White Sox must be just thrilled to have two years of James Shields left. Last year, he was very easily the worst qualified starter in the majors. In fact, only two pitchers threw enough innings to qualify and posted a negative wins above replacement: Jered Weaver (-0.2 WAR) and Shields (-0.9 WAR). Shields both struck out fewer batters (6.69 per nine) and walked more (4.06 per nine) than ever before, and he gave up an absolutely stunning 40 home runs in his 181.2 innings. James Shields is completely broken, and at 35 years old, he's not likely to become a decent pitcher again, not to mention a fantasy asset. (Scott Strandberg)

The Quick Opinion: The warning signs were already there in 2015, but Shields' high strikeout rate assuaged doubts a bit. 2016 was an unmitigated disaster, and one that Shields seems unlikely to bounce back from.
