Profile: Forever long on potential and stuff and short on results, Cashner is heading into his age-30 season -- in other words, less than a year younger than Felix Hernandez -- with a career average of about one win above replacement per 100 innings pitched (7.5 career WAR in 726.1 innings). He's never really been able to sync up a year where his strikeouts, walks and groundball rate all play together nicely, and as a result continues to disappoint those who still expect greatness out of him. Now tabbed to round out a bizarrely shaky back-end of the Rangers rotation, Cashner is already dealing with biceps tendinitis, compounded by a setback when he tried to throw upon initial "recovery." The odds are already stacked against Cashner reaching 180 innings for just the second time in his career, and ZiPS has him pegged for a 4.80 ERA with middling whiff and walk rates. The best-case scenario is he'll recover and do a decent Colby Lewis imitation. Don't bet on it. (@Brandon_Warne)

The Quick Opinion: The Rangers have already put too many of their eggs in Cashner's basket. Don't make the same mistake on draft day.
