Profile: Marlon Byrd's up-and-down career came crashing down to a (likely) end in June when he tested positive for Ipamorelin, which releases growth hormone. His second PED offense (the first was in 2012) carries a 162-game suspension. The tense here is important – carries not carried – as the timing means that Byrd will have to miss a big chunk of 2017, assuming someone signs him as a free agent. Over 2013-14, Byrd posted 6.2 fWAR and was off to a solid start in 2016, posting .7 fWAR in just 34 games. But for the 39-year-old to ever play again, someone will have to sign him, let him sit out and finish his suspension (at which point he'll be nearly 40), and then slot him into their lineup starting in June or July, at the earliest. Even if that happens, he's unlikely to repeat the .347 batting average on balls in play that inflated his stats over a sixth of a season in 2016. Byrd suggested at the time of his suspension that his career was over - and that is likely the case. (Chad Young)

The Quick Opinion: A second PED suspension, which will keep him sidelined for close to half a season, and an impending 40th birthday are probably enough to end Marlon Byrd's career. If he does manage a comeback, it will be a struggle for him to provide value in fantasy or on the field.
