Anatomically Correct MLB GameDay: Prince Fielder

Those of us who don’t have cable TV — or even MLB.tv — often resort to MLB GameDay for pitch-by-pitch updates. (The way we sit with baited breath waiting for that next red or green or blue dot to appear is pathetic, really.)

GameDay uses a stock avatar for all batters — the avatar varies only based on the batter’s handedness. This can lead to confusion as to who is batting, especially if GameDay updates some info more quickly that it updates other bits, which it often does.

Enbiggenable.

I propose anatomically correct avatars for MLB GameDay. Considering it took me only about seven hours to create this anatomically correct Prince Fielder avatar, I’m sure the highly trained and highly paid tech peeps at MLB can do it in no time.

Embiggened and embiggenable.

This reminds me of the awful MLB2K7 for the Nintendo DS. Body Size wasn’t the only issue. Once between pitches, David Eckstein changed from a Left-Handed Black man to a Left-Handed White man, when in fact, he is a Right-handed Hobbit.

Butt’s not big enough.

I made the butt bigger at the last minute. Still wasn’t enough.

I dunno. I kinda like how Altuve and Adam Dunn are the same size.

I must have the mind of a 10-year old because this is not what I was expecting from the Anatomically Correct MLB GameDay Prince Fielder. “Will it be garnished with dreadlocks?” I asked myself. “Like Whoopie Goldberg in a turtleneck?” Not that I am disappointed. OK, I am disappointed.

I resemble that comment. Yes, I’m pathetic. No cable, no MLB.tv. I just sit there watching gameday occasionally listing to the radio broadcast. Sometimes, I switch over to gameday classic – I like the way it allows me to replay a pitch sequence.

Oh yea, classic all the way. Only way to enjoy a dramatic playoff elimination game, in my book.

Even with the embiggenable embiggened embiggened, he still looks sub-embiggened.

Not all of the avatars are the same. I’ve noticed that when a player is batting who wears his pants slung-lo (the sloppy Manny look), then the avatar also has his pants hanging to the heels. However, when a player is at bat who shows sock or stirrup, the pants leg stops at the top of the shoe. So at least the MLB Gameday people are paying attention to that as a customization feature.
