It’s quite heart-warming. He was accused of rape and sodomy, so the Rangers traded him to the Mariners (the Rangers were scared of being raped and sodomized). The Mariners apparently “didn’t know” about the charges when they acquired but traded him away again within the next season (the Mariners were scared of being raped and sodomized). Oh, and wouldn’t you know it, he went to Penn State! Zoom!

He cleaned up before becoming a productive MLB player. After conquering his demons, he has not broken MLB rules (a la Braun) or been arrested (Miggy and Myers). His public relapses are his own personal battles (CJ Wilson would probably be the only other player to make headlines by indulging in alcohol), for which he has apologized and taken full responsibility.

Similarly, drugs used to win an MVP award or a fantasy league title are merely instances of drugs being an indirect pathway to fun. My advice would be to keep Ryan Braun, win your league, and if questioned by your son about any of this, simply reply ‘I’ll explain it when you’re older and not quite as dumb’.
