Cleef Van Lee

Last week, it doesn’t matter when or how many hours before midday, I was drinking. In a bar where the mesero brought me a menu with several parts, including a laminated photograph of the establishment’s dog with text telling patrons that while the dog would dearly love some of your food, please don’t give him any. The venue for my drinking had a logo with a cowboy hat on it. Then it came to me: that is what I can do for my NotGraphs post!

Craig Robinson is not a Child, a God, a Pilgrim, a Rock, the Forest, the Resurrection, the Cosmos, the Law, or Damo Suzuki. Nor is he trying to break your heart. He does have a Web site, though. It's called Flip Flop Flyin'.

  2. Sadly there is nobody named Cleef in baseball history, but there are a few Van Lees though there isn’t a Van Lee exactly, they’re all Van Leesomethings.

    Regardless, I love it!

It’s a gorgeous painting (drawing? what do you call it if you do it on a computer, anway?), but I kind of wish Cliff Lee was wearing the bolero hat worn by Van Cleef in “The Good the Bad and the Ugly”.

Morning beers or no, you are quickly becoming my favorite NotGraphs contributor. It’s a shame the page is going away so soon after you signed on.

Just further motivation to #KeepNotGraphs, of course, or to form a new page, perhaps ArtGraphs, so you can remain in the employ of this fine cyber-establishment.

The two batters Cleef hated the most were Gary Cooper and Snake Plissken. Cleef hated Gary because he always hit his 12 to 6 curve. He hatee Snake because no matter how many times Cleef jammed him with high heat, Snake always managed to find a way to escape. Strangely only in NYC not LA.
