Screw hitting coaches; teams in the AL East need to hire physicists to help with that.

Wow, this really shows how difficult it is to be a catcher for a knuckleballer.

Yes it does. That ump is a PRO though! Dude doesn’t flinch, knowing full well that there’s a decent chance that thing is about to float up and catch him right in the mask. Watches it all the way to the glove!

Ya, he sure does better than the backstop who winces and catches the ball with his eyes closed.

I remember seeing knuckleballers on my crappy resolution 13″ TV growing up, and they looked so freaking easy to hit. Uhhhhh, nope!

First, I notice the ball changes directions midway to home plate
Then, I notice the catcher flinch as he prepares to receive the filthy offering
Next, I notice the look of sheer and utter bewilderment from the batter
Finally, I notice the stone cold demeanor of the umpire

This GIF contains multitudes. Multitudes I say.

“In other words, the the idea that a knuckleball moves in different directions during it’s movement is a myth, the pitch has the same smoothness in trajectory of any other pitch.”

Back to the drawing board, physicists.

It really is as smooth as any other pitch — it’s the change of direction that makes the movement look so freaky, the unpredictability.

“There are only two theories on hitting the knuckleball. Unfortunately, neither of them works.”

Most of the time that was dismissed as comedy. Charley Lau never saw R. A. Dickey

Remember when we all thought the Japanese had developed some unhittable pitch called the gyroball?

Well, we got it. It ended up being thrown not by a lauded young stud from Japan, but by a geriatric who was pretty bad and by all rights should be retired by now, but we got it.

For get who said it but there was a great quote about catching the knuckleball. The best way to catch it was to wait for it to stop rolling, then pick it up.
