GIF: Fielder and Cabrera’s Elaborate Handshake

I see six distinctive steps. I just don’t know what two of them are:

1. Five, down low.
2. Backhand five, also down low. Convenient, since their hands are already down there.
3. Lean back, hands in the air, feign surprise; like when you run into an old friend, or are the recipient of some good news.
4. ?
5. ?
6. Forty-four million dollar hug.

At first, I thought steps four and five had something to do with cooking. Salt and pepper? I don’t know, I was hungry. Then, for some reason, I thought about drugs. But, again, I’m not sure. You tell me: What the hell are they doing?

H/T: Thanks for the hot GIF, Beneath This Graveyard Western Sky.

Would that be the taffy pull at St. Peter’s or the peter pull at St. Taffy’s?

4&5: They are reenacting the parable of Androcles and the lion. Fielder pulls a sliver from Miggy’s paw and then drops it into his hand. Miggy hugs Fielder in thanks. He will not eat Fielder.

I think we’d be more concerned with Fielder eating Miggy.

Yes! I saw an interview with Cabrera where they broke down the handshake and that’s exactly what he said! “I give you a little magic, you give me a little.” Here’s the link. http://detroit.cbslocal.com/2013/08/28/miguel-cabrera-impersonates-jim-leyland-and-shakira/

They’re trading lemon and sugar to make lemonade, obviously.
Everyone knows Cabrera’s sour disposition mixes perfectly with Fielder’s sweet personality to make the world’s greatest lemonade.
When life gives you lemons, you pay $214 million over 9 years to get some of that sugar.

The “sprinkle.” It’s “give me some of your stuff, I’ll give you some of my stuff.” Like sharing the greatness, or something.

The congratulatory gesture “Feed the Birds” is meant to by synonymous with a high-five or a handshake or that thing when people wiggle their fingers from one hand at each other.
