Video: One-Man Collision at Home Plate

Watching him — Jacksonville Suns pitcher Graham Taylor — round third base, you knew we were in store for a grand finale. The bottom line: Safe. But yet another reminder for the National League to join us in the 21st century and embrace the designated hitter, so that the above nightmare never happens in the major leagues.

Ive been saying this for a couple years now there is no reason for pitchers to be swinging a bat (and running the bases) in professional baseball

I’m all in favor of treating pitchers like real baseball players and asking them to stay in shape so they don’t end up on YouTube for their clumsiness. If all they have to offer is the skill of throwing strikes, then they aren’t real baseball players. Make them throw, hit and run like the rest of the ballplayers and we’ll have a lot less Graham Taylor episodes.

I laughed until the “He’s hurt” moment. then felt horrible, then laughed. Dramedy indeed.

Pitchers hitting is boring, its usually just an automatic out. I hate it when some national league meatball tries to argue about the “purity of the game”. 99% of baseball leagues around the world use the DH. DH’s also force the league to play better pitchers.
