Matt Treanor and Other MLB Olympic Spouses

There’s been a good bit of press coverage about Matt Treanor and his wife Misty May-Treanor, who won the gold in beach volleyball last week, for the third consecutive Olympic Games. The LA Times writes about Treanor’s tearful reaction here.

But there was very little MLB-related coverage of her volleyball partner, Kerri Walsh Jennings, and her husband, Desmond Jennings of the Tampa Bay Rays.

Not to mention track and field star Carmelita Jeter and her husband Derek.

Or her gold-winning relay teammate Allyson Felix and her husband Junior.

Or 17-year-old swimmer Missy Franklin, and her husband, 1942 Tigers backup shortstop Moe Franklin.

Or Claressa Shields, first American woman to win a gold medal in boxing, and her two husbands, Rays pitcher James and former Angels pitcher Scot.

Or Gabby Douglas and her husband Phil, who won 14 games for the 1920 Giants and just turned 122 a couple of months ago.

British heptathalon winner Jessica Ennis only recently got divorced from Phillies star Del Ennis, who hit almost 300 home runs in his storied career, but never received an Olympic medal.

If only Derek still had Carmelita’s range at short and speed down the line…
