Some Common Phrases, GIF-ustrated: “Manny Being Manny”

This doesn’t really need any introduction…

Manny thought he was doing a good job. He put his body on the line. He went all in. Such was Manny’s career afield. It is like he never understood what a baseball glove was.

It is not unlike the time you approached that attractive person at that brewpub, began to compliment that person’s eyes, then realized that person was blind, then tried to sneak away. We wish we had the resources to make GIFs of your life, too, but we will have to settle for Manny Being Manny.

On a side note, the Red Sox had four players lined up to relay the ball, and presumably a fifth to catch the tail end of it in the infield.

Well, Damon was the one fielding the ball. If anything the first cut probably wasn’t far enough out.

I kind of feel like Manny was an alien sent from another galaxy. They tried to send someone who best approximated a major league baseball player, but the alien they sent happened to be a bit underdeveloped in the “awareness” category.

That would also explain why he was taking fertility drugs. He was trying to spawn!

Considering the distance of the “triangle” to the infield at Fenway, and how noodle like SeƱor Damon’s throwing arm is one could argue that Manny was thinking like an astute ballplayer in this instance. I would even wager that Manny being an additional part of the relay for a ball lost in the deepest part of that shit box of a stadium with Damon in CF may have been the set play.

If one was to critical of Manny in this instance it would have to be for not recognizing (it appears) that Damon got a good bounce of the wall and he was able to summon all his power by setting his feet to uncork a major league average throw. These criticisms should be tempered by the fact that baseball is happens much faster than GIFs.

One could even argue that Damon may have tried to do “too much” in this circumstance and it was he who missed the appropriate cut off man.

Manny is too fine a gift from the baseball gods to go down on a GIF like this.

Try again Baumann.

Manny’s less than 100 feet from Damon, I don’t think Damon’s arm is quite that bad.

I very much doubt the Red Sox practiced using outfielders as cut-off men, that’s absurd.

Interesting point. I will reconsider this entire scenario. The absurd wind-up that Damon takes gives some credence to your theory.

Easily the best. Reminds me of myself trying to find the remote without getting off the couch.

I feel like blind people like having their eyes complimented, just as fans appreciated the spectacular diving play GIFfed above.

In this example, the part where “you” try to sneak away after realizing the person is blind — that was supposed to be the embarrassing part, not necessarily the fact that “you” would compliment a blind person on their eyes.

Manny gets too much flak for this; we all know that Damon would have never hit the actual cutoff man with his noodle arm otherwise.

A few years ago I was reading a SI from around 2000. They interviewed Manny and during the interview after being asked a question, Manny just flat up got up and left. They wrote that this isn’t the first incidence like this and that he might have ADHD. Regardless, Manny is a character.

I’d like to see a GIF on Manny from when he was playing for Cleveland in a late 90s playoff game. The ball was hit to deep RF, Manny went back and jumped on the wall, hung on to the top of the fence, and when he turned around the ball hit the warning track and bounced off the wall!

You know player is extraordinary when peeing in the Monster during a game isn’t the most bizarre moment of his career. I also remember an Indians game in which Manny had single past the 2b, a gapper to right-center, and a homer to the right center bleachers. I miss him already.
