TBS’ Innovative Stats and Other Equally Innovative Things

photo-10

TBS’s INNOVATIVE STAT boxes imply the statistic displayed within is fresh,  saucy, and state-of-the-flippin-art. OPS, however,  hasn’t been fresh or state-of-the-flippin-art since like 1984, though it retains bits of its original sauce. With that in mind, I made lists of other things that were once innovative but now lack some component of freshness, sauciness, or state-of-the-flippin-artness

INNOVATIVE MEDICINE

Bloodletting Techniques

Leeches

Scarification

Forearm/Neck Venesection

Drill a Hole in their Head

INNOVATIVE TERRITORIAL DIVIDES

Duchy (by Grand-ness)

Grand Duchy of Luxembourg

Grand Duchy of Lithuania

Grand Duchy of Saxe-Weimar-Eisenach

All the Duchies I bought playing Dominion

INNOVATIVE MACHINES

Printing Press Inventors

Bi Sheng

Johannes Gutenberg

Lord Stanhope

Friedrich Koenig

 INNOVATIVE AGRICULTURAL TECHNIQUES

Hand-dug Irrigation Canal Leaders

Sumeria

Egypt

Mesoamerica

Trenches I dug in my backyard when I was a kid that ruined my mom’s flowerbeds

INNOVATIVE BODY PLANS

Pseudocoelomates

Nematodes

Rotifers

Loricifers

Aschelminthanimals

To be fair, I did see them display the Catcher Framing in the Innovative Stat box, so at least they are trying, some. They didn’t quite explain framing accurately, but again, the standard is so low, you have to give them points for trying.

Like if your 1-year-old is learning to use a spoon, and she gets peas all over her face. *You don’t laugh at her and post a snarky internet reply, you get excited that she actually got some peas on the damn spoon.

*I am well aware that many parents do in fact do this.

Who else thinks “Chili Davis!” every time they see Chris Davis abbreviated as shown in the hot screengrab above?

I’d really like the O’s if Chili Davis played for them like, right now.

When I first saw 2B B. Roberts in a box score some ten years ago I initially thought “Bip Roberts?!?”

Whenever I see “CF A. Jones” it still takes me two seconds to realize it’s Adam, not Andruw.

Don’t buy Duchies! Sure, they’re not Estates, but they’re still a trap!

OPS * 100 + RBI. or maybe it’s OPS + RBI/1000

I think they are using the word “innovative” because Nissan uses that term (or “innovation”) in their advertisements.

Ya know, the whole sponsor thang.

On the Red Sox post game last week Tim Wakefield asked if there was a stat for swings and misses. Not swing%, not swing and miss%, but a counting stat for the number of swings and misses a pitcher stat. Tim Wakefield: NERD
