Profile: The Phillies brought in Benoit to help add some bullpen depth. He has been a top-end reliever since around 2010 but really struggled with the Mariners last season (5.18 ERA, 4.95 FIP). While he was still striking out batters, he saw his walk (4.5 BB/9) and home run (1.5 HR/9) rates jump to 10-year highs. His struggles could be related to a DL stint (shoulder). He never got his season going until he was traded to the Blue Jays at the end of July. Once in Toronto, he was back to his old self with a 2.81 ERA helped by a huge drop in his walk and home runrates. It’s really tough to pinpoint the exact reason for the turnaround, but it is probably a combination of a new team, health, and some regression. (Jeff Zimmerman)

The Quick Opinion: Benoit could be in line for saves in Philly at some point in 2017. If Ryan Madson can rack up 30, so can Benoit.
