Profile: Richard is a sneaky deep-league value play. His strikeout rate hovers just above a modest 5.0 per nine innings. His walk rate jumps around a bit but should be near 3.0 per nine. Of the 273 pitchers with a minimum of 60 innings pitched, he has the fourth-lowest K-BB% at 3.3%. Scrubs like Mike Pelfrey, Blaine Boyer, and Mat Latos put up similar numbers. The one thing Richard did that these other didn't is that he produced a ton of ground balls. Of the same 273 pitchers, his 65% ground ball rate ranked at the 4th-best behind relievers Zach Britton, Blake Treinen, and Sam Dyson. A bunch of ground balls won’t make him an ace but could make him a decent two-start pitcher in shallow leagues, especially in his home starts. In deeper leagues, I could see him being in a fantasy team’s rotation depending on the weekly matchup. (Jeff Zimmerman)

The Quick Opinion: Richard's near-elite ground ball rate makes him playable in most deeper formats.
