Hold on Cashner? what about Perkins?

0 votes
5x5 Roto, 12 team, redraft.

Currently working with a rotation of Kershaw, Sale, Kuroda, Buehrle, Masterson, Edwin Jackson and Drew Smyly.

I've got Marcum as well.

No DL spots and I've also got Longoria stashed, so I'm down to just 4 bench spots.

I'm middle of the pack in ERA, 3rd in K's, 3rd in WHIP. 3rd to last in saves which is why I grabbed Perkins, although Capps is supposed to be activated, however he might get traded and Perkins is likely to be 1st in line.

Report came out today that Bud Black said Cashner will likely be sidelines until mid-August. I love his potential and he can help bring down my ERA and perhaps take a lead in K's, but another month seems like a long time.

No one I'm dying to grab on the waiver wire, but I'm positive that will change any day now, especially after the 2nd half gets underway. For example there are guys like Collmenter and Estrada that are available. Not to mention Lilly is available (another one of my injured guys that was on my roster for too long)

If it's a redraft, you are probably better off streaming pitchers and ditching Cashner. The IP/K boost he might give you from late Aug-Sept (barring another injury) are relatively inconsequential if you stream properly, and if guys like Lilly are available, it's also possible Cashner will just sit there and you can get him back in a month if you really like his upside that much.

I'd hold Perkins until the trade deadline if possible, but Jared Burton has done enough "damage" (depending on your POV) that Perkins might have a tough time wrestling the closer role all to himself before the end of the year.
