xFIP Equation

0 votes

Looking at the xFIP wquation in the Glossary:

xFIP = ((13*(FB% * League-average HR/FB rate))+(3*(BB+HBP-IBB))-(2*K))/IP + constant

I thought the FB% in the equation should have been total FB and not FB%.

Let me know ehat you guys think

Yes, technically you are correct.

It would be total FB given up by the pitcher (#) times HR/FB (in percent).

Essentially what you are doing is predicting the number of HR as a fraction of the total number of fly balls the pitcher induces.

50 fly balls * 10% (/100) HR/FB = 5 HR allowed.
