Profile: You may be surprised to find out that Nick Franklin had a 110 wRC+ last season with the Rays. As a utility player, Franklin was surprisingly good at the dish though he struggled defensively basically everywhere. While it is nice that he can play multiple positions, his lack of quality anywhere makes it unlikely that he sees regular playing time in the outfield or infield. Without regular playing time, it is difficult for Franklin to be worthy of a roster spot in basically any format. However, if he can actually hit as he did last year he may force either the Rays' hand or another teams'. His strikeout rate dropped significantly and he added power in his age-25 season. Once a hot prospect, it is possible Franklin is beginning to figure it out at the plate as a late bloomer. However, the more likely scenario is that he is the product of a small sample size and is best utilized in the utility role he was in last season. If he ever does get into a regular role, having some power, speed, and positional flexibility could make him an interesting fantasy player in very deep leagues. (Ben Duronio)

The Quick Opinion: Franklin is in a utility role in Tampa Bay, and although he hit well in that role last year he is unlikely to be helpful in fantasy due to his limited plate appearance projection. However, he will be only 26 in 2017 and could force the Rays' hand if he continues to progress at the plate.
