Profile: So much for the theory that great defensive chops boosts one's offensive game. Oh wait, that's not a thing. Too bad for Simmons, who remains a wiz with the glove, but hasn't been able to break a .303 wOBA over a full season yet. There are some positives though as his strikeout rate improved to a career best, supported by continued elite swinging strike rates, while his BABIP has risen in every full season of his career. Unfortunately, the further away from 2013 we get, the flukier his power output that year looks. It's nice that he has suddenly become a good basestealer and reached double digit steals for the first time, because he has little else to offer. At least we know that his playing time isn't at risk, and that's about the only thing to look forward to when rostering him. He'll play! (Mike Podhorzer)

The Quick Opinion: If only defense counted in fielding, Simmons would be a star. He finally moved his batting average into positive contribution territory and learned to steal bases successfully. If he could do that again and flirt with 10 or so homers, he should yield a profit, but that's a lot to ask.
