Profile: The Cardinals received Duke from the White Sox at the end of July last season and reaped the benefit immediately as Duke threw 23.1 innings for the birds to the tune of a 1.93 earned run average and just over ten strikeouts per nine. Doing exactly what he was acquired to do, Duke was a royal pain on lefties in 2016, holding them to just a .580 OPS. He had massive (and uncharacteristic) struggles walking right-handed batters (23 vs. RHP compared to just 6 on the season vs. left-handed batters) however, and it’s possible his wildness was an early indicator of something more severe, as Duke not only underwent Tommy John surgery in October but also a procedure to repair his left forearm flexor muscle. (Trey Baughn)

The Quick Opinion: Duke’s recovery from two significant medical procedures in October is expected to take 12 to 18 months before he sees the mound again for a major league team. The soon-to-be 34 year old will miss all of 2017, will be a free agent in 2018, and should remain a free agent in your fantasy league, too.
