Profile: Among pitchers with at least 500 innings pitched between 2012-15, Chen was ninth in pop-up rate. Last year, among the 137 pitchers that threw at least 100 innings, he was 93rd. He lost a mile per hour on his fastball while the rest of his pitches got harder. He lost two inches of drop on his slider and nearly an inch on his curve. He tried to throw low in the zone after years of throwing high in the zone. The league hit more homers than it had ever before, save one season in the middle of the steroid era. All of this led to the biggest home run rate Chen has ever seen, in the same season he left Baltimore for Miami. So weird, yet if you knew all those things would happen, and that he would sprain his elbow in July and miss two months, you'd probably have guessed how terrible his season looked. Will the Marlins let him throw high in the zone? Will he get any of that velocity back? Will he find his slider again? Will the pop-ups come back? It probably won't cost you too much to find out. If it doesn't, take a look under the hood. He won't ever be a front-of-the-rotation fantasy piece with that strikeout rate, but he could be an asset. (Eno Sarris)

The Quick Opinion: The pop-ups used to make Chen a sneaky play, even in a hitter's haven. If he can find that health and approach and those pop-ups again, he could actually beat his projections in Miami. Those ifs are heavy, though. Pay little.
