Profile: Michael Wacha looked to be a future star when he went toe to toe with Clayton Kershaw in the 2013 NLDS. He even improved his 2013 performance at the beginning of the next year, but then he was diagnosed with a scapular stress injury that has dampened his effectiveness. He managed to pitch a mostly full season in 2015 with a solid ERA and decent peripherals, but he was pretty much shot by the time the playoffs came around. Last year, he couldn't make it that far. Wacha was decent in the first half last year, putting up average walk and strikeout numbers, though some poor luck due to a low left-on-base percentage gave him a below-average 4.36 ERA. He only made it a month into the second half before he hit the disabled list with shoulder inflammation. He made a few outings near the end of the season, but did not pitch well. Heading into the 2017 season, there is a possibility that Wacha will not make the Opening Day rotation as he appears to have been supplanted by Alex Reyes. He could have a super-bullpen role or he might find himself as an occasional starter due to injury somewhere else in the rotation. Wacha hasn't shown he can hold up for a full season since his injury in 2014, and expectations should align with that performance. (Craig Edwards)

The Quick Opinion: Wacha hasn't finished a season healthy since 2013 and might not have a spot in this year's rotation. He could be a really good reliever, but if he's starting, it is hard to expect much more than average and less than a full season of starts.
