|Profile: Jean Segura had an absolutely spectacular season in 2016 and set career highs in nearly every category: home runs, RBI, Runs scored, batting average, slugging, and on base percentage. He had across the board improvements that turned him into one of the premier assets in 2016. This has been a heartwarming turn around by Segura, who went through tragedy in 2014 with the sudden death of his infant son. Through 2015 he struggled to focus on baseball and lost his confidence, but others throughout the league stood with him and offered mentorship. Including Robinson Cano - his new teammate, whom Segura credits with helping him during the offseason heading into 2016 - and hitting coach Luis Mercedes, whom helped Segura revamp his swing and focus on hitting more fly balls. The new swing helped, and Segura both increased the frequency with which he hit home runs, but also their average exit velocity, reaching 89 mph, up 4.5 mph from the prior season. This uptick resulted in a 200 and 590 point rise in fly ball batting average and slugging, respectively, and 15 more fly ball home runs. Jean Segura has been reborn in the majors and reached the full potential we had only seen brief glimmers of in years prior. (Andrew Perpetua)|
