RotoWire News: Torres, despite allowing five earned runs over 5.0 innings with the Brewers this spring, is a lock to open the season in the Brewers' bullpen, according to Tom Haudricourt of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. (3/23/2017)

Profile: The Brewers' bullpen has seen some drastic turnover in the last few months. After trading away Will Smith and Jeremy Jeffress during the season, they jettisoned Tyler Thornburg off to Boston during the Winter Meetings. This left a bit of a void in Milwaukee at the closer position, but that was filled with the signing of Neftali Feliz. After a rough 2015, Torres rebounded to his career norms, posting a 23% strikeout rate and strong sub-three ERA. To be clear, he probably didn't deserve the latter by relying on a career-low batting average on balls in play, an 83% strand rate, and a homer-to-fly ball ratio well-below average. Torres relied less on his four-seamer in 2016, opting instead to throw his two-seamer more often. Strangely, he gets more whiffs on his two-seamer but induces more grounders with his four-seamer, helping to add strikeouts but give up more fly balls. He also cut back on his curve, previously considered his best pitch, but that earned a meager whiff rate and a career-low chase rate. (Rylan Edwards)

The Quick Opinion: Torres has put together a strong career as a middle reliever. However, at 34 years old, there's little room for improvement. With the signing of Neftali Feliz to close, Torres' chance at double-digit saves has gone by the boards, but he could still help you if you're in a league that values holds.
