Manager Mike Scioscia said that he will let his catcher situation play out this spring and Perez isn't guaranteed to be a backup, the Orange Country Register reports. (2/15/2017)
|Profile: There are few more genuinely exciting fantasy scenarios in 2017 than the Angels' projected catching tandem of Martin Maldonado and Carlos Perez. Perez is a strong defensive catcher, but his most notable offensive achievement of 2016 was his valiant battle against the Mendoza Line. Perez came out on top in that battle, hitting .207, but it's anyone's guess as to who will take the majority of the reps behind the plate for the Angels this year. Maldonado is basically a more established version of Perez - a really good defender without much to offer with the bat. Whether they end up in a timeshare, or one of them seizes the regular job, it's hard to see either being much of a fantasy asset. (Scott Strandberg)|
The Quick Opinion: Even if Perez wins the starting job in Anaheim, he won't help your fantasy team.
