News: Matsui went 3-for-4 with a home run and six RBI in Thursday's World Series-clinching win over the Phillies. He was named Series MVP after going 8-for-13 with three homers and eight RBI in six games.

Analysis: Matsui powered the Yankees to a 4-1 lead, then added a two-run double in the fifth to tie the World Series record for RBI in a single game. The 35-year-old will be a free agent this offseason, and his creaky knees make it somewhat unlikely that the Yankees will bring him back. Nothing will be decided yet, but if this was Matsui's final game in pinstripes, it was just about the perfect sayonara.

News: Matsui will not be in the starting lineup for Game 3 on Saturday, reports The Journal News.

Analysis: With the DH spot unavailable while playing in the Phillies' National League ballpark, Yankees manager Joe Girardi has elected to play Johnny Damon in left field and leave his regular DH on the bench. Matsui will be available as a great pinch-hitting option off the bench.
