Profile: Santana's quest to regain the magic of his batting-average-on-balls-in-play-fueled 2014 season again fell flat in 2016, as the 25-year-old hit just .240/.279/.326 while getting into only 75 games. And while Santana was never likely to repeat that .319/.353/.472 line from 2014 — on a .405 BABIP, mind you — that he hit just .227/.259/.308 over the next two seasons while failing to take a significant step forward as a polished baseball player has been incredibly disappointing. He's probably on his last legs with the Twins organization — if he even makes the team — as the new front office faction is not beholden to him like Terry Ryan and company were. If Santana could simply replicate his career batting line of .268/.302/.382 while standing at all the same positions he did last season — second, third, short and all across the outfield — he'd be an adequate 25th man. Even that doesn't seem terribly likely. (@Brandon_Warne)

The Quick Opinion: Santana would only be interesting as a speedster if he manages to steal a starting job. His best chance is at shortstop, which isn't terribly likely. As is, he's very-deep-league fodder at best.
