Position: Data Architect

Description:
The Data Architect is responsible for putting into place and maintaining the processes and systems to efficiently integrate and effectively make available baseball related data from both external and internal sources in order to provide the backbone of evidence based decision making.

Responsibilities

Primary:

  • Responsible for the daily operation, performance, and maintenance of the data assets used within Baseball Operations. Makes use of Pirates’ standards and industry best practices to implement efficient and high performance access to data.
  • Design, create, and extend processes for data extraction, transformation, cleansing, and load to and from internal and external data sources for both structured and unstructured data.
  • Evaluate potential data providers and design and implement data models for storage and access to new types of data that integrate with the existing data and application architectures.
  • Design, create and maintain reporting structures using SQL Reporting Services and Tableau and participate in one-off research projects to answer specific questions.
  • Design and implement data mining processes as a part of predictive modeling in conjunction with the Quantitative Analyst and other staff members.

Required:

  • Expert knowledge of SQL and database administration tools. Knowledge of SQL Server replication topologies. Understanding of database documentation and design tools.
  • Experience with cloud based architectures and tools including Amazon S3, EC2, Databricks required.
  • Experience participating in multiple aspects of the software development life cycle including requirements definition, design, development, testing, and implementation.

The Society for American Baseball Research was founded in Cooperstown, NY in 1971 and has grown to more than 6,000 members around the world. SABR members organize themselves in local chapters, research committees, and virtual communities of interest. A 501(c)3 charitable corporation, SABR’s annual budget approaches $1 million with revenues coming from events, dues, licensing, and donations. SABR’s office is located in the Walter Cronkite School of Journalism and Mass Communication at Arizona State University in downtown Phoenix. The website, SABR.org, is a central organizing tool and repository for the collective work of Society members. Role Summary
As Chief Executive Officer of SABR, you’ll be a leader on many different fronts, ensuring no two days will be the same. Duties

Position: Cape Cod Data and Operations Intern

Description:
TrackMan leverages industry leading 3D doppler radar technology to capture the most comprehensive and accurate ball tracking data in the game. TrackMan data is used for player evaluation and development by all Major League teams in the US and the majority of teams in Japan and Korea, as well as top NCAA D1 programs. TrackMan is also used by MLB Advanced Media, as a ball tracking component of the revolutionary Statcast system.

TrackMan is seeking highly motivated and detail oriented candidates to operate the TrackMan radars at various Cape Cod locations. These individuals will be responsible for running the TrackMan system for all Cape Cod games. The duties require that this role arrive at least one half-hour before first pitch and continue to the final out. This position runs from June 12th – August 12th.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting up rosters and tagging information in TrackMan.
  • Log information for the entire game – monitoring the system and making any changes throughout the game (i.e. roster changes, defensive substitutions, etc.).
  • Assist in troubleshooting system issues with Trackman support, fixing any errors, and uploading the game to the TrackMan.
  • Maintain TrackMan equipment required for tagging
  • Support the TrackMan data operations teams in ad-hoc data requests and evaluations.

Qualifications:

  • Current college student or recent graduate with education focused on Sports Management, Statistics / Mathematics, Operations Management, or similar.

TrackMan is seeking a highly motivated and detail oriented candidate to operate the TrackMan radar at three locations. This individual will be responsible for running the TrackMan system for home games. The number of games worked varies by week based on availability and the season schedule. Requirements:

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Description:
The Tampa Bay Rays are seeking highly motivated and detail oriented candidates for their affiliate TrackMan Stringers/Operators. These individuals will be responsible for running the TrackMan system for Rays’ affiliate home games. The number of games each stringer works varies by week based on availability and the season schedule. The duties require that this role arrive one half-hour before first pitch and continue to the final out. Stringer(s) will start as soon as possible coinciding with the affiliate season.

Responsibilities:

  • Responsible for setting up rosters and tagging information in TrackMan.
  • Log information for the entire game – monitoring the system and making any changes throughout the game (i.e. roster changes, defensive substitutions, etc.).
  • Assist in troubleshooting system issues with Trackman, fixing any errors, and uploading the game to the TrackMan site.
  • Other reasonable and related duties may be assigned.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Candidate must be motivated, well organized, and detail oriented.
  • A firm understanding of baseball is required.
  • Candidate must be able to make games in affiliate city fairly regularly and able to work nights during the week and weekends associated with home games.
  • Previous experience using TrackMan software is preferred but not required.
