Eno Sarris Baseball Chat — 9/7/17

1:34
Eno Sarris: i named my son Calvin so, even though I don’t mind the music, I think I’m rooting against this guy

1:36
Eno Sarris: nah, whatever, it’s fun

12:00
Mike: mookie has been playing like crap. is he still worth a $25 keeper for next year? I can only keep 4

12:01
Eno Sarris: Yeah man, I think he’s still a .300/25/20 type and that batting average is super rare. I know he’s not doing it now but he still has all the pieces he needs to be that guy.

12:01
Tim: Think Lyons is taking over the closer gig in St. Louis?

12:02
Eno Sarris: With Cecil and Duke in the fold, they can afford a lefty closer. Yes.

12:02
DB: Any super deep league arms you think can help for the last few weeks?

12:05
Eno Sarris: I like what Chris Stratton and Tyler Skaggs are spinning right now. Chad Kuhl. Hader just for numbers. I love love Brandon Woodruff. Deeper? Adam Morgan throwing hard right now.

12:05
mookie best: In your mind, what’s going on when a low-K pitcher like, say Mike Leake, has a crazy strikeout game? On 18 July 2016 he had 11 Ks in 6 IP. His stuff simply doesn’t seem that good. Was this a day that he was particularly “on,” a day that the batters were “off,” a combination, or random variance?

12:06
Eno Sarris: I think he relies on command more than most so on those days he’s probably hitting spots, feeling good athletically, and matched up with an umpire that’s giving him borderline calls.

12:06
robbie: robbie ray for $6 or Rhys Hoskins for $10? keeper league. it’s my last spot.

12:06
Eno Sarris: Hoskins. I always bet on the bat.

12:07
Anthony: As a Jays fan, I’m pumped about Vlad Guerrero Jr. Something to hold onto given this lost season. How good can this guy really be, franchise savior at this point?

12:08
Eno Sarris: He’s still fairly far away, in High-A and not even 19, but it’s a sweet combination of power and contact. Gotta love those strikeout rates.

12:08
Reginald Denton III: Eno — are you an LCD Soundsystem guy?  The new album is stellar.

12:08
Eno Sarris: Best at Pitchfork this year

12:08
Eno Sarris:

12:09
Curious: What’s the worst-weirdest thing you ever purposely ingested?

12:10
Eno Sarris: Right now vegemite comes to mind, but it’s not that weird. Sea slug is nasty. Chicken sashimi was weird and squishy. Tuna eyeball and pig eyeball… not that bad but pretty weird.

12:10
The Decadent Moose: I watched the Cardinals game last night specifically for Jack Flaherty.  His fastball sits mid-90s, but it laser beam straight.  How does a guy survive throwing a pitch like that 60% of the time?

12:11
Eno Sarris: This is my problem with Flaherty. The weirdest thing was that the Giants hit the slider, which is pretty good looking. But that fastball is straight as heck so he’ll need to command it great. Matchup dude for me.

12:11
Average Team Age: I think we can all agree Hoskins and Crawford are legitimate. Is an OF with Altherr, Odubel, and Williams a legitimate threat on a playoff team?

12:13
Eno Sarris: I feel like I’m taking crazy pills but I squint and see a real team emerging here. I know it was a bad year, but my team goes Franco/Crawford/Hernandez/Hoskins with Galvez and Joseph as the super subs, and that outfield is fine with me, with some star power, and we haven’t even hit on a couple more guys they have in the minors. Nola is the one/two and they have to find some pitching, yes. I need to figure out why Pivetta is bad, maybe command.

12:13
Canadian Hoser: Joe Biagini, the master of one step forward, two steps back. Do you think he can still be a productive part of the Jays rotation next year? His stuff seems good and he gets a lot of ground balls but he has too many stinkers (see last night).

12:14
Eno Sarris: Never wrote up that interview with him, but he’s a tinkerer in a good and bad way. Something might still click, but dominance doesn’t come easy to him, he doesn’t have that top shelf stuff.

12:14
Chandler: Who are your 4 picks for ALCS and NLCS?

12:15
Eno Sarris: Yankees Indians and Nationals D-Backs with a big fat shrug emoticon because it’s hard predicting the postseason.

12:16
Biscuit: Joey Gallo is better than Miguel Sano fight me

12:16
Eno Sarris: I’ll take the guy with fewer strikeouts so LETS GET IT ON

12:16
Sterling Mallory Chris Archer: This chat needs more weirdness.

12:16
Nihilist Eno: A lot of players get their first taste of the majors as a September callup. But we will all get called up some day to the eternal void…..drink beer, watch baseball

12:17
NihilistDuda: Dude- Earthbound Brewery in StL is my new jam. Doing incredible things. A must drink!

12:17
Eno Sarris: yeesh it was tough to finish that interlude off.

12:18
Reynaldo Lopez: Early in the year, you said I would benefit from changing my arm slot. Any proof of this happening yet?

12:19
Eno Sarris: whoa. It’s down 2.5 inches. Hasn’t changed his movement much though. I still see a very boring fastball, a good change that’s somehow getting spanked this year, and a meh curve.

12:20
Moonlight Graham: Yesterday I had a sandwich called the “Bedtime Buddy” (and yes I will plug John Moore’s deli in Hauppauge, NY).  It had a fried chicken cutlet, pepperoni, tomatoes, and spicy ranch dressing on a garlic roll.  If this place were to name a sandwich after you (they have over 100), what would be in yours?

12:21
Eno Sarris: I’ve got two places supposedly working on my sandwich ideas so I’ll get back to you. It’ll likely have something sweet, something cheesy, something spicy, and something crunchy in it.

12:21
Luke Weaver: You a fan of my arsenal?

12:22
Eno Sarris: Piece tomorrow! A few things — deception, command, strange arsenal — will favor him more than his projections, IMO.

12:22
Torrey Lovullo: I don’t like Fernando Rodney, he is mean to me in the clubhouse. How should I handle this?

12:23
Eno Sarris: If joking back at him doesn’t work, ignore him until his performance is so bad it deserves comment or change.

12:23
Questions?: Favorite starting pitcher getting a cup of coffee this year?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Starting pitchers rarely make an impact other than in reliever roles, so I’m looking at Walker Buehler. I still like Brock Stewart, too. Easier to react to names than to survey the whole league and pick out a few names.

12:25
Former Lee Warmer: Luis Castillo is a keep in 12 team mixed, keep 14 yeah?  Likely have offense settled along with Kluber, Greinke.  Keep over Lester, S Gray or Quintana?

12:25
Eno Sarris: Yeah I’d keep him over the older guys.

12:26
Dominic : Whats the role for Gsellman in 2018?   He really drops off after 75-80 pitches.  When he commands the 2-seamer he can be very effective.  Also curious if you think the Albino Tiger (Matz) will pitch north of 100 innings next year.

12:27
Eno Sarris: Man I think Gsellman is headed for the pen. None of his secondaries is average by results or stands out when it comes to movement. Sinker is his best pitch.

12:27
Snarfle: If Trout gets into the playoffs, he will vaporize pitches with his eyes and then walk around the bases cackling.

12:27
Eno Sarris: Or get walked four or five times a game.

12:28
Sammy: Is Robbie Ray’s curve too straight? I know it has a velo advantage but it looks straight and more hittable.

12:28
Eno Sarris: It’s also fairly close to his slider in terms of movement. Watch a start and try to guess which is which.

12:29
Bruce: Do you have the guts to draft Elvis over C. Seagar next year?

12:30
Eno Sarris: Man on projections Andrus full season (.287/15/22) is probably worth more than Seager (.290/25/2). Just feel like Seager is still more likely to have the peak year / breakout than Andrus, who just had it.

12:30
Alec Asher Wojciechowski: It sounds like the Astros are shifting less scouts to the professional scouting due to the increase in data available. How much access do teams have to trackman data from ballparks that don’t belong to them? Can they find out the spin rate on a player’s curve from a pioneer league game without asking for the data from one of the teams?

12:31
Eno Sarris: My understanding is that they only own TM data from teams that come their parks, but in leagues where they don’t have a team or want more data, they can make a data sharing agreement with another team.

12:31
Tom: Should the Giants try again with the team they have or implode it and start from scratch?

12:33
Eno Sarris: I’m not sure the assets they have bring back the hordes that would stimulate a quick rebuild. Not saying Belt and Crawford are underwater, but they are probably fairly close to market value and aren’t probably seen as impact players that demand a Sale-like package. If they bite the bullet and really sell Bumgarner and Posey… yes that might be a good idea, but it also tarnishes the legacy of two players that could go into the HoF as Giants, and keep people coming to one of the best parks.

12:33
Bruce: With this explosion of neighborhood microbreweries, are the national brands like Stone, Lagunitas, Bell’s etc losing business?

12:33
Eno Sarris: Yes. The national craft brand is in the most precarious position. Local tasting room based businesses like Fieldwork are killing it.

12:34
Moltar: Blerg I hate september baseball, why won’t the tigers just put Fulmer on the DL?!?

12:34
Eno Sarris: ALL OF THE RELIEVERS

12:34
Sarge: What’s Matt Olson’s ceiling? Also, what’s his realistic projection now?

12:36
Eno Sarris: I put up a comparison of Olson’s first 150 PA to Bellinger’s on The Athletic and in some ways Olson was superior. I think he can cut the Ks a bit, add some walks, and settle in around something like .250/.330/.500 or so. Very good, especially once you consider his D.

12:36
Greg: How much of a tweak is required for Fulmer to go from a contact management oriented pitcher to an elite pitcher who can manage contact and get swings and misses? He almost reminds me of Greinke.

12:37
Eno Sarris: I really think more sliders is all he needs to do, used to be an elite swing and miss pitch for him.

12:37
Babe Lincoln: Thoughts on Brandon Nimmo this season?  .400+ OBP, solid OF defense.

12:38
Eno Sarris: Very impressed! Wish he had more power, but a 17% reach rate is Votto-like. Needs to hit more fly balls, but as a lefty, could be a low-cost CF with Lagares if the team wants to spend elsewhere, like the infield or rotation.

12:39
5 Run Homer: Does Kingery fit on your Phillies team of the phuture?

12:40
Eno Sarris: There are obviously buzzards circling third base, so whomever has the arm to take over for Franco, that’s fine. I’m giving Franco another year myself, has shown decent exit velocity and could really be a lot better with just a little tweak in mechanics or selection.

12:40
Brett Gardner: Don’t tell Judge but he smells

12:40
mtsw: Maybe this is a dumb idea, but can a guy with a straight fastball like Flaherty mitigate it a bit by moving to one end of the rubber or another so its at least coming in across the plate even if theres little actual movement?

12:41
Eno Sarris: Not dumb at all. Tons of people break out with that sort of adjustment.

12:41
Carson Fulmer: My pitching makes me want to cry

12:41
pirates hurdles: Headline on CNN main page right now – “Hurricane watches issued for parts of Florida as Iran roars toward US” – seems like this should be bigger news

12:41
Moltar: Charles Bradley :(

12:41
Catt Marpenter: IVE BEEN TRYING TO TELL YOU ABOUT EARTHBOUND BRUUH

12:41
The Dude: Also when is the sandwich blog going up? I would absolutely read that daily/weekly

12:41
Eno Sarris: Something in the water, these were all in a row.

12:41
Mario Mendoza: Glasnow and Honeywell, AAA playoffs, sad face

12:42
Eno Sarris: We’ve been talking about Honeywell not being on the 40 man, guess the Pirates rather have Glasnow keep it going in the minors.

12:42
Wily Mo’s Ghost: Ranch is an abomination. To make it spicy is just to acknowledge that its only flavor is a vague and unappetizing sourness.

12:42
Slapshot: Is there a veggie or condiment that you would absolutely not put on a sandwich?

12:42
Eno Sarris: I’m not actually a big fan of ranch haha.

12:43
Gunner: What SP either through trade/FA should the A’s acquire in the offseason? Other than hometown man CC Sabathia at 2/20 :)

12:43
Eno Sarris: There are a ton of 4/5 types that will be available, and the A’s will pick off the cheapest:

12:45
Eno Sarris: Brett Anderson
Trevor Cahill
Tyler Chatwood
Jesse Chavez
Bartolo Colon
R.A. Dickey
Jaime Garcia
Miguel Gonzalez
Jeremy Hellickson
John Lackey
Francisco Liriano
Mike Minor
Tyson Ross
CC Sabathia

12:45
Eno Sarris: Funny how many ex-As are on the list.

12:46
DTH: if you want to see an extremely clear org philosophy, check out Jose Quintana’s four seam and sinker usage before and after the trade to the Cubs.

12:47
Eno Sarris: Interesting. http://www.brooksbaseball.net/outcome.php?player=500779&b_hand=-1&time… Count the Cubs as another org that’s not all in on the 4s. Astros, too.

12:47
I am the walrus: Curious as to how fast a prospect falls out of favor.  Would KC ss Mondesi, who is hitting well at AAA still be a top 50 or even top 100 prospect after a not so great ML 200 at bats?

12:47
Eno Sarris: I bet not top 100. Happens fast. Maybe faster than it should.

12:48
Chris: What are your thoughts on Dinelson Lamet? Still walks a bit too many guys but has really curtailed the HR rate since July and that K rate is enticing.

12:48
Eno Sarris: yeah my only problem with him is the lack of changeups. I like the movement on it and want him to trust it like a hard change.

12:49
Archie Graham: In a 16-team keep forever league (keep 5), who would be your odd man out: Turner, Marte, Lamb, Archer, Moncada, Devers?

12:49
Eno Sarris: The pitcher.

12:50
Travis: The results weren’t pretty, but I really liked what I saw from Luiz Gohara yesterday. Easy LH gas (97-98) with a filthy slider. The change is a work in progress, but if he can get that up to even average, the Braves might have the stud pitcher they’ve been looking for.

12:50
Eno Sarris: He really doesn’t trust that change yet, but yeah the gas and slider combo gives him a wicked high floor.

12:50
Bink: Astros>Indians?  The NL seems harder to figure.  The Nats and Dodgers seem beat up and frail right now.

12:51
Eno Sarris: I think overall the Astros are maybe a tick better, but shorten the series and then I take the Indians. Top two starters, take Indians. Top x relievers, take Indians. Hitters go Astros, but I still take Indians in a series.

12:52
J.D. Martin: Any thoughts on Kyle Gibson?  Supposedly made some mechanical changes and has been very good his last few times out.

12:52
Eno Sarris: Release point and velo up. I’ve always been a little interested in him. But only deep league.

12:53
Eno Sarris: someone wanted weird

12:53
Alex: Need to replace Hamilton, OBP XBH R and NSB league… Rosario or DeShields?

12:53
Eno Sarris: DeShields. Healthy, decent OBP.

12:54
Chin Music: Need to drop one of B Parker or S Greene. Who do I choose?

12:54
Eno Sarris: Parker’s team is better, which usually leads to more save chances.

12:54
Hannah Hochevar: If you put an umlaut on the second e then beer becomes ones who be’s.

12:54
Sam: Stone and Lagunitas are also a bit antiquated.  Bell’s has stayed relevant with their great seasonal IPAS, stouts and experimental stuff while the other nationals have stayed dormant.

12:55
Eno Sarris: It feels that way but then you look at some of the overlooked beers from both, like Aunt Sally from Lag (easy drinking hoppy sour on pop market) and the Stachostic project (sp?) stuff from Stone, where they try to push the envelope… They’re trying at least.

12:56
Brian: Did you know certain hops are trademarked? Local brewer (BG BeerWorks) told me last night that he can’t grow Citra or Mosaic because they’re trademarked and I thought that was crazy. For some reason I fear this could be really bad for the industry in the future.

12:57
Eno Sarris: Yeah I knew that but I’m not sure its bad, or worse than the farming industry’s problems in general. I guess yeah farms have been trending towards Big Agra so a big hop farm cornering market on a hop brand is not great. But it’s also been going on in farming forever.

12:57
Percy Miracles: Eno, with all the DL trips this season it’s strange to see what’s been happening in September. Why haven’t the Tigers placed Fulmer on the DL yet when it appears his season is done?

12:57
Eno Sarris: Easiest answer is that the team doesn’t need his roster spot with rosters expanded.

12:57
E: I feel like I can’t keep up with the national craft brands anymore, and I also can’t decide if that’s a problem or not. Every time I go to a bottle shop I feel like there is something new from each of them, whether a new style or just a 3rd type within a style. It’s great to have options but its somehow overwhelming?

12:58
Eno Sarris: See? They’re trying, but there’s a general problem where there’s just always something new from someone out there to try.

12:58
Dylan: What is Rafael Montero?

12:58
Eno Sarris: a major league right-handed starting pitcher?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Less facetiously, he’s fiddling with his fastball, looks like he’s throwing more of a sinker instead of that straight fourS. Could be the sinker makes everything work. Change is meh but slider is p good.

1:00
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: When is the last time you had a dream where all of your teeth shattered and fell out and if it wasn’t recently (or ever) then I am sorry for putting this idea in your head.

1:00
Eno Sarris: Have these all the time, Hate them.

1:00
Sonny: Papelbon had a historically straight FB. You can make it work

1:00
Eno Sarris: With great command and velocity!

1:00
Southi: Has Ozzie Albies been the player offensively and defensively that you expected him to be more or less?

1:00
Eno Sarris: Yes! And I’m elated.

1:02
Dooduh: You buying Stanton trade?  How do new owners come in a trade the face of the franchise esp after record breaking HR campaign??  Don’t they have to take another shot with this core?

1:02
Eno Sarris: Yeah I mean they’re willing to buy the team with him on the books, I don’t think they sell. Don’t new ownership groups want to win, or at least give impression that they’re investing in the product on the field?

1:03
Bink: Man, that list just made me want to take Jerry Dipoto’s phone away.

1:03
Eno Sarris: GIVE ME ALL OF THEM, wait I can’t?

1:04
Oddball Herrera: Starting a fantasy baseball sushi league, already have Himachi Iwakuma and Eduardo Escolar, further contributions appreciated

1:05
Eno Sarris: Could get a little weird with Mike Trout, but what about Carter Cappa

1:05
Carl: The Padres sent Renfroe down to work on his swing.  He hit the hell out of the ball in AAA and now the season is over and he’s not back.   Have they totally soured on him?

1:05
Eno Sarris: Eh this is the type of team that may just want to take a look at three other guys right now to see if they’re worth keeping around. Renfroe will be there next year.

1:06
ssf: Gallo and Sano have an identical strikeout rate this season, friend. It’s a question of whether you prefer Gallo’s much higher walk rate and iso vs. Sano’s ability to hit singles I guess

1:06
Eno Sarris: So far, but projected, Gallo’s is a three ticks higher, and I believe those projections.

1:06
J Baez: I’ve looked pretty good thus far, no?  Am I capable of hitting 30 homers and stealing 15 bags in 2018?

1:06
Eno Sarris: No on those counting stats, but yeah he’s good.

1:07
John S: that’s not how trademarks work.

1:07
Eno Sarris: I mean you ‘can’ grow it, but you have to have some sort of agreement with the trademark holder, no?

1:08
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: Bell’s? Seriously? How many beer drinkers does it take to enjoy a Hopslam? Three. One to drink the Hopslam, and two to say, ‘Last year’s version was better.’

1:08
Chris: Re: Lamet – Just an interesting observation; if you compare early-career Ervin Santana and Dinelson Lamet, they are very very similar.

1:08
Eno Sarris: Santana took a leap forward when he just used the change, even though it’s not a great pitch.

1:09
Anthony: When you say local breweries with brew pubs are killing vs larger ‘craft’ brewing operations, are you referring to revenue generated, or quality of product?

1:10
Eno Sarris: I think I meant safety of revenue and the slopes of their own revenue lines. They still growing and adding while Stone is cutting. Also, quality of product and excitement and hype goes to the smaller breweries.

1:11
Eno Sarris: yo this is my theme song

1:11
E: Other than Oakland, which clubhouse is the worst?

1:12
Eno Sarris: Like, physically? Because all the young kids in Oakland are hanging out just fine right now. In terms of gym/facilities and the like… Wrigley is a mess.

1:12
2-D: You answered a Hunter Renf-ROE question right the sushi league one!

1:12
Adam: With all of the batting practice that players take, why isn’t there more work done to practice plate discipline? Seems strange that this important skill is only utilized in game situations.

1:13
Eno Sarris: Just talked to Tommy Pham about this. I think it’s happening. Pitching machines are getting better, and you can calibrate them to throw balls, throw different pitch types, come out of a certain slot, even with a video mimicking the release on a screen around the release point.

1:14
John S: re: trademark.  sounds like they’re conflating branding issues into growing issues.  a patent could prevent growing through infringement.  a trademark would only protect name.

1:14
Eno Sarris: yes I think they are actually patented.

1:14
Sam: Re: The big crafts.  Wouldn’t you want them to be experimenting themselves and not being reactionary?  The best of both world I can think of is probably Green Flash, their stuff from Cellar 3 is always my cup of tea, but it’s definitely always something I’ve never had before as a craftbeer head

1:14
Eno Sarris: Big crafts are creating the sub brands to do just this.

1:14
Mark: I got to thinking last night about Corey Kluber’s curveball. I think it might be the best pitch in baseball. What do you think Eno?

1:14
Eno Sarris: Jeff just wrote about this. It always topped my lists when I made them.

1:15
Marcus Banks: Potentially some dark days ahead for The FAN. Best wishes to Boomer and the gang.

1:15
Eno Sarris: Doubt the FAN goes down with him. Carton made some bad choices, doubt he involved the radio station, but we’ll see.

1:15
Anthony: Almost a double edged sword then, a victim of their own success. Enough growth begets national distribution suggestive of a well loved product. Then the once loved/hyped local becomes a larger national operation looking for ways to remain relevant!

1:15
Eno Sarris: There is something to this. It’s a cycle we see in music, art, food…

1:15
D.B. Sweeney as Shoeless Joe: Ketchup on eggs Yay or Nay?

1:16
Eno Sarris: on the eggo sandwich for sure

1:16
Mr. Fister: Teams are getting Fistered left and right.  I’m back!

1:16
Eno Sarris: It’s sort of amazing. I don’t understand it. I doubt it.

1:16
Mark: Matt Garza is a crap pitcher and a crappier human. Just needed to get that off my chest.

1:16
Eno Sarris: whoops meant to do this one

1:16
Chris Tracy: What are your thoughts on loud eaters? What’s an acceptable form of retaliation?  I know physical abuse is a fireable offense.

1:17
Eno Sarris: What if you ate really loudly back? I guess that would sully your own reputation?

1:17
Eno Sarris: I know my kids look at me like I’m nuts when I whine back at them and I’m like, yeah you get it now right.

1:18
NYTT: Dansby has been hitting extremely well since he was called up. Not much to be excited about with a lack of pitching growth and having Kemp screw up in LF, but how exciting are Dansby and Albies for the future?

1:19
Eno Sarris: He’s swinging less now, that could be it. For a while he was hitting fewer ground balls too. Im thinking league average shortstop with still some upside beyond. It’s a nice keystone defensively, too.

1:19
Joy Division T-Shirt: I’m here to remind you about that time you were wrong about that thing that I’m110%  right about.

1:19
JV: What are your thoughts on Justin Upton at $31 in an OBP keeper for next season?

1:20
Eno Sarris: Scraping the top of his value.

1:20
Marcus Banks: I’m sure FAN wasn’t involved. I meant in terms of ratings with Mike on the way out and now the louder half of their most popular show presumably gone as well.

1:20
Eno Sarris: Interesting. I don’t listen so I just figured Boomer carried that show.

1:20
Moltar: Chaz Roe for sushi league MVP

1:21
Bruhsenthal: Who is less than 5% owned and gonna hit five homers next week?

1:22
Eno Sarris: This is a real possibility. Matt Chapman. runners up: Matt Davidson, Harrison Bader, Jorge Alfaro.

1:22
Luke: Eno! Heading to Vermont breweries for the first time this weekend. How excited should I be?

1:22
Eno Sarris: Very!!

1:22
E: Who was the worst player with the longest career?

1:23
Eno Sarris: Rafael Belliard comes to mind before I look.

1:25
Eno Sarris: Over 1k games, below replacement: Doug Flynn, Johnny LeMaster (Pablo Sandoval just took away his Giants hitless streak record)… name I recognize: NEIFI PEREZ. -3.3 WAR career.

1:25
Chris: Favorite microbreweries in Seattle?? Peddler/Hilliard’s in Ballard are always my go-to’s.

1:26
Eno Sarris: Dunno if Holy Mountain and Cloudburst Count. I went to a chalkboard beer spot in Ballard and had a few different breweries I really liked. Someting with a fish name.

1:26
Brad: Do you like woodruff next weeks 2 starts vs pitt and mia

1:26
Eno Sarris: Yes.

1:26
E: What do you think beer tasted like 200-300 years ago?

1:26
Eno Sarris: Sours.

1:26
Shawn: Teeth dreams are bc of stress, i think

1:26
Eno Sarris: oh good. That makes sense. I’ve had a hell of a month.

1:26
Jon: Has statcast(TM) brought us any closer to evaluating pitch quality on a pitch-by-pitch basis? I.e. a combination of location, velocity, spin rate,  that can predict the pitch outcome better than chance?

1:26
Eno Sarris: That’s what I’m working on with Perpetua!

1:27
Tom: Hey Eno, in my 20 team points league, I can keep one prospect out of: Meadows, Kingery, Adames. I have Seager at short and a loaded outfield (Trout, Conforto, Cutch). Am I crazy to go Kingery?

1:27
Eno Sarris: My eye went there. I’m unsure about Adames and Meadows’ butt-based power hasn’t shown yet.

Brad: Juan Castro played in 1,110 career games for -6.1 Career WAR – Mostly w/ Dodgers

1:28
Eno Sarris: yeah I saw the name, don’t remember him that well.

1:28
MD: Best breweries on LI, NY?

1:29
Eno Sarris: You wouldn’t count Singlecut I guess, that’s Astoria.

1:30
Dooduh: wow, kinda crazy chat, but I haven’t been around Eno chats in a long while…

1:31
Eno Sarris: like you took the wrong pill this morning.

1:31
2-D: Not a Cardinals fan, but I will never forget David Eckstein and Rafael Belliard hugging over second base after they won the World Series.

1:31
Eno Sarris: It’s fun sometimes to look back at teams that won it all and be like ‘really, that dude was their starter at that position? really?’

1:33
Eno Sarris: Long Island: I like Barrier!

1:33
Pickle Rick!!!: Brandon Woodruff love?

1:33
Eno Sarris: yeah I see a heavy fastball, lots of ground balls, decent slider, average change.

1:34
Babe Lincoln: Any whiskey favorites?

1:34
Eno Sarris: Caol Isla, Laphroig, Bulleit Rye, Makers.

1:35
Reginald Denton III: you in on Giolito these last few weeks?

1:35
Eno Sarris: Got some ride back on his fastball, but it looks like the premo velo is gone.

1:35
Shades of Gray: I’m behind by 26 minutes but 1:05 Sushi help – Dan Herron?  All of the Marlins?

1:35
Ray Liotta as Shoeless Joe: That was Ronnie Belliard hugging Eck.

1:35
Eno Sarris: Dammit, I thought it was too late. Rafael was on the Braves with Mark Lemke.

1:37
PD: Is Robert Stephenson a viable starting pitcher or has his last 6 starts been smoke and mirrors?

1:38
Eno Sarris: Slider replacing curve could be big. He couldn’t ever command that thing. Ball rate still pretty high on his fastball, and he’ll walk a lot of guys. I’m not all the way out but even over his good stretch has a 6 BB/9…

1:38
Bink: Four roses and Blanton’s if we’re counting bourbons.  Pappy vw.

1:38
klof: hey eno! nice to meet you in person at public house last sunday!

1:38
Eno Sarris: Hey dude!

1:38
Spendius: There actually was an Ichiroll in Seattle.

1:39
Fantasmic: Wondering if Rhys, Shaw, Devers, and/or McCullers are viable keepers? 16 tm, keep 3; I have Bellinger locked in but am unsure of the others. Thanks Eno!

1:39
Eno Sarris: Pass on Shaw. I’d probably take Devers over McCullers in a three.

1:39
PTBNL: Not necessarily a long career, bur Ruben Quevedo is worthy of consideration for worst pitcher, all time leader in highest FIP, HR/9. Made 58 ML starts.

1:39
Mike Francesa: My 6×6 keeps 240 players total. I should pounce on the recently cut David Dahl, right?

1:39
Eno Sarris: yes.

1:39
Shades of Gray: I’m reading this Chat on my Apple watch…don’t tell Cashman

1:39
Eno Sarris: So

1:39
Eno Sarris: would

1:39
Eno Sarris: it

1:39
Eno Sarris: be

1:39
Eno Sarris: annoying

1:40
Eno Sarris: if

1:40
Eno Sarris: I

1:40
Eno Sarris: responded

1:40
Eno Sarris: like

1:40
Eno Sarris: this

1:40
Chad: Do you see Harrison Bader as a significant part of the Cardinals’ future?

1:41
Eno Sarris: Man I like him. Has that fire hydrant body and fast bat, reminds me of Clint Frazier. Cards will probably slow walk him until someone has to leave that OF though.

1:41
Moltar: Barrier is great, I like Great South Bay a lot, I know Blue Point isn’t independent anymore but I still like their tap room, Port Jeff Brewing is alright, as is Oyster Bay brewing.

1:41
Sean: How good is Patrick Corbin? Can he get by with just fastball/slider?

1:42
Eno Sarris: I liked the slower change he was throwing, and I do think he needs it, but I think in both real and fantasy he’s a decent mid rotation guy.

1:42
Shades of Gray: Wow big day…two joke comments…maybe i could go for a baseball question.  Buxton – is the second half real?

1:42
Eno Sarris: No i think the whole thing is real. I think he’s going to be a very streaky guy because of his plate discipline.

1:42
Hey man: Are sign stealing scandals all this stupid?

1:42
Eno Sarris: Remember that man in white in Toronto??

1:42
Goo Punch: Is there somewhere I can see which parks facilitate the most Just Enough HRs year to year?

1:43
Eno Sarris: Just Enough sounds like a Hit Tracker thing.

1:43
HappyFunBall: Jose Ramirez or Mookie Betts in a keeper?  Bear in mind Jose has 2/3/OF eligibility.  Can’t believe this is a legit question … wow Jose!

1:44
Eno Sarris: Wow. So I think Ramirez has similar bat to ball abilities and batting average will be close if not the same. Betts is faster, but it might only be a few stolen bases between them. They might both hit 20 homers next year even if Betts may have more longterm power. And then Ramirez can play second for you… are we taking Jose Ramirez here??

1:45
CubFan: With balls leaving the yard at a record pace and previously “weak” hitters now knocking 20 balls over the fence, do you think MLB will switch vendors for their balls in 2018? Seems like the home run stat for individual players has been watered down and could thus affect the high end salaried players. Wonder if that is what we saw at the trade deadline where hitters like JD Martinez were valued so low.

1:45
Eno Sarris: Unsure baseball hates all these homers.

1:45
Bink: Should the Mariners sign Zack Cozart this offseason, move Segura to 2B and Cano to 1B?

1:45
Eno Sarris: Defensively, yes. Depends on money though. Their rotation is… in shambles?

1:46
Eno Sarris: Hey!! I gotta go!! Too much to do before I head to New York for OctFest.co. Drinking in Greenpoint tomorrow night, ping me if you’re around.

1:46
Eno Sarris: Thanks for hanging out.
