Lineup Analysis (5/26/23)

American League

Angels

Taylor Ward and Mickey Moniak are splitting time in left field.

Luis Rengifo, Gio Urshela, Brandon Drury, and Jared Walsh are sharing three infield spots.

Astros

• Over the last 10 games, Chas McCormick has started eight times.

Mauricio Dubón has started just twice in the seven games since Jose Altuve came off the IL.

Athletics

• The outfield is a bit of a mess with Seth Brown off the IL. Five guys (Brown, Ruiz, Bleday, Laureano, and Rooker) are sharing the three outfield spots and DH. There aren’t any clear winners or losers at this point.

Blue Jays

• Steady.

Guardians

Gabriel Arias has started in five straight games playing three different positions (SS, 3B, OF).

Mariners

Jose Caballero (.829 OPS) has started in seven of the last eight games at second base. Kolten Wong is a universal drop at this point.

Orioles

Joey Ortiz has started in six of 11 games since being promoted.

Adam Frazier has started 17 of the last 18 games at second base.

Rangers

• Steady and productive. The only changes are Josh H. Smith and Ezequiel Duran splitting time as Duran nurses a rib injury.

Rays

• Same, a complete disaster to figure out.

Red Sox

Pablo Reyes (vs LHP) and Enmanuel Valdez (vs RHP) are in a second-base platoon.

Royals

Maikel Garcia has started in nine of the last ten games. He’s starting all over the infield and four games at second base.

Tigers

Akil Baddoo only starts against righties. He doesn’t always have a set replacement.

Zach McKinstry leads off against righties but sits against lefties.

Twins

Willi Castro has started eight straight games.

Donovan Solano has started in five of the last six games.

White Sox

Jake Burger has started eight straight games.

Romy González (.502 OPS) has started five straight as second base.

Gavin Sheets doesn’t start against lefties.

Yankees

• No regulars in the bottom third of the lineup.

National League

Braves

Marcell Ozuna has started eight straight at DH.

Brewers

Tyrone Taylor has only started once in the last four games.

Owen Miller has started nine straight games.

Jesse Winker (vs RHP) and Darin Ruf 러프 (vs LHP) are in a DH platoon.

Cardinals

• The bottom half of this lineup is a complete mess.

Óscar Mercado (.875 OPS, 2 SB) has started in six of the last eight games.

Cubs

Mike Tauchman has started four straight in center field.

Patrick Wisdom has started in only two of the last four games. Miles Mastrobuoni has started twice instead.

Diamondbacks

Emmanuel Rivera (vs LHP) and Josh Rojas (vs RHP) are in a third-base platoon.

Pavin Smith has started in six of the last seven games.

Dodgers

James Outman has sat in two of the last five games. Besides Mookie Betts, the rest of the outfielders might not be playing enough to be fantasy relevant.

Chris Taylor has started in only four of the last ten games.

Giants

Patrick Bailey has started in five of the last six games at catcher.

• The team has one too many regulars and everyone sits at least once a week.

Marlins

Jon Berti has led off for six straight games.

Jonathan Davis has started two straight in center.

Yuli Gurriel has started three games at first and hit third in the last game.

Mets

Mark Vientos has only started in four of eight games (one at third) since being promoted.

Jeff McNeil (vs RHP) and Eduardo Escobar (vs LHP) are in a second base platoon.

Nationals

Corey Dickerson (vs RHP) and Stone Garrett (vs LHP) are in a left-field platoon.

Padres

• With Manny Machado’s injury and now with Ha-Seong Kim 김하성 possibly missing some time, Rougned Odor should get some playing time for a week or two.

Brett Sullivan (.530 OPS) has started in three of the last four games at catcher.

Phillies

• Stable

Pirates

Tucupita Marcano (vs LHP) and Chris Owings (vs RHP) are in a shortstop platoon.

Connor Joe and Josh Palacios are splitting time in right field.

Reds

Matt McLain has hit second for seven straight games.

• Looks like TJ Friedl (vs RHP) and Jose Barrero (vs LHP) are in a centerfield platoon.

Nick Senzel started a game in left field.

Jake Fraley is still sitting against all lefties.

Rockies

Michael Toglia is getting the starts at first base with CJ Cron on the IL.

Jeff McNeil is not in a platoon with Eduardo Escobar. McNeils plays every day and hits third. He is on pace to play in all 162 games and for over 600 at bats. Escobar is now a utility infielder. Escobar does draw an occasional start at 2B, and McNeil will typically move to LF for those games, but this is not a platoon.

McNeil has sat a few times Vs lefties lately and come in to pinch hit though yesterday he sat due to being banged up.

He sat vs three consecutive lefties from 5/17 through 5/28, but only four of them so far over all of May (through 5/30). https://www.fangraphs.com/teams/mets/player-usage/batting-lineup
