This may just be one man’s opinion, but I’m not too sad that it’s Monday here at the Roto Riteup.

On today’s agenda:
1. Jonathan Singleton’s early going
2. Chris Archer continues his hot stretch

Jonathan Singleton’s early going
Now that he’s been up for nearly a week, it’s time to check in on the status of Singleton in the majors. Singleton has amassed 26 plate appearances over six games, and so far everything has sort of gone as planned, and not always in a good way. Singleton has 10 strikeouts (38.5%) and a poor whiff rate helps explain why. The left-hander also has two homers and a double, good for a .480 SLG and .280 ISO. What’s troubling is that the youngster has only walked once, but it’s been less than a week and he’s probably just excited to swing away. The biggest knock on Singleton has been the strikeouts, so this is a scary glimpse into a worst-case scenario. Hopefully Jonathan is able to drop his K% to the 25% rate for the rest of the year, which would leave us with hope for what could be.

Chris Archer continues his hot stretch
The young Archer did well in a start against the Mariners yesterday, losing out to King Felix Hernandez in what may be one of the King’s top-5 career outings. Here’s a nice look at what Archer has accomplished recently.

5/23: vBOS: 6 IP, 11 K, 4 BB, 4 H, 0 ER
5/28, @TOR: 6 IP, 7 K, 2 BB, 6 H, 2 ER
6/03, @MIA: 7 IP, 8 K, 2 BB, 5 H, 1 ER
6/08, vSEA: 6.1 IP, 2 K, 1 BB, 5 H, 0 ER

Over this stretch of only allowing three earned over five outings, Archer has been granted one win, one loss, and three no-decisions. While he wasn’t facing the league’s top offenses, most of those groups aren’t schlubby, and Archer does have the potential to do great things even against the league’s best. Make sure he’s owned in your league.

Rougned Odor hurts his shoulder
The Rangers’ second baseman tweaked his shoulder while diving back into first on a pickoff attempt, so at least his circumstances are better than the man he’s replacing, one Jurickson Profar. Odor is hitting .290 in 76 big league plate appearances, but is slugging .478 thanks to a handful of extra-base hits. Odor is considered day-to-day for now, so don’t freak out, bro.

Nuno and Gose allow you to save money for the other three, and even those two guys could do something positive on the day. There’s not much out there for mid-level starting pitchers, so this may be the best way to go about it.
