Around the Majors: Beltran to the Mets

1) The Mets reached a deal with free agent CF Carlos Beltran–7 years, $119 million.

After 8 RCAA/.847 OPS and 36 RCAA/.911 OPS seasons, Beltran hit .548 SLG, .367 OBA, .915 OPS, 46 RCAA in 159 games with the Royals and Astros. He has a .844 career OPS, compared to his league average of .773, and 100 RCAA in 885 games.

2) The Dodgers traded RF Shawn Green to the Diamondbacks for C Dioner Navarro and Ps William Juarez, Danny Muegge and Beltran Perez.

Green agreed to a 3 year, $32 million contract, covering 2005-07, with an option for 2008. After 42 RCAA/.944 OPS and 15 RCAA/.814 OPS seasons, he hit .459 SLG, .352 OBA, .811 OPS, 9 RCAA in 157 games. Green has a .864 career OPS, compared to his league average of .779, and 224 RCAA in 1514 games.

Navarro had just been acquired from the Yankees in the Randy Johnson trade.

3) The Dodgers signed free agent P Derek Lowe to a 4 year, $36 million contract.

After 2.58 ERA/44 RSAA and 4.47 ERA/6 RSAA seasons, Lowe had a 5.42 ERA/-10 RSAA in 33 starts with the Redsox. He has a 3.88 career ERA, compared to his league average of 4.61, and 101 RSAA in 396 games.

4) The Fukuoka Hawks signed free agent 3B Tony Batista to a 2 year, $15 million contract.

After -3 RCAA/.766 OPS and -29 RCAA/.663 OPS seasons, Batista had a .455 SLG, .272 OBA, .728 OPS, -20 RCAA in 157 games with the Expos. He has a .756 career OPS, compared to his league average of .774, and -81 RCAA in 1179 games.
