News: Francoeur had surgery to repair a torn ligament in his left thumb on Monday, the NY Post reports.

Analysis: He's expected to be ready for the start of spring training. Francoeur doubled his power output after getting traded to the Mets last season, but he's still struggling to draw walks and his plate discipline went unimproved. At his best, Francoeur looks like a .280/.315/.470 type player and now that he's approaching 3,000 at-bats for his career, it may be fair to assume that improved plate discipline will simply never happen.

News: An MRI on Francoeur's left thumb Monday revealed a torn ligament, though he plans to try and play through it, the NY Post reports.

Analysis: Francoeur injured the thumb making a diving catch in the top of the ninth inning Sunday and had the thumb swell up overnight, requiring the MRI Monday. Alex Cora was able to play with a torn ligament using a splint, but he is not a power hitter and the injury will probably somewhat sap Francoeur's power.
