| Analysis: While tossing a career-high 214 innings, Pineiro won 15 games, produced a 3.53 ERA, struck out 105 and walked 27. His 1.14 walk-to-innings ratio was the best in the league, and Pineiro also ranked first in the majors with a 2.73-to-1 ground ball-to-fly ball ratio last season. Pineiro would be fine as a 4/5 starter, but given the question marks surrounding the remainder of the staff, including Johan Santana, who is coming off elbow surgery, the team would need more than just him to boost the staff. |
