News: Schmidt (shoulder) will likely retire after filing for free agency, MLB.com reports.

Analysis: Injuries limited him to just 10 starts during a three-year span with the Dodgers, while yielding a 3-6 record with a 6.02 ERA after signing a $47 million contract with Los Angeles prior to the 2007 season.

News: Schmidt (shoulder) could make his Cactus League debut Monday or Tuesday, the Dodgers' official site reports.

Analysis: Schmidt had a good bullpen session on Saturday and is feeling better than he did earlier in camp. He still has a long way to go before we're comfortable stating that he's the No. 5 starter, but next week will be telling.
