News: Renteria had an MRI on Tuesday that revealed a bone spur in his right elbow, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: The injury will require surgery after the season. Renteria sat out Tuesday's game but is expected to return to the lineup Wednesday. Still, the injury affects him in the field and at the plate, but he plans to play through the pain, helped by occasional cortisone shots and frequent days off.

News: Renteria left Tuesday's game in the fourth inning with a sore elbow, the San Jose Mercury News reports.
Analysis: Renteria was given a cortisone shot and will miss at least the rest of the series against the Braves. Juan Uribe will start at shortstop while Renteria sits. Renteria, who has struggled with the elbow throughout the season, had hoped the All-Star break would help the injury. Instead, the elbow flared up, significantly affecting his swing. Normally a .300 hitter, Renteria is batting just .254 in 307 at-bats on the season.
