News: Perez has been diagnosed with patellar tendinitis in his right knee and will need season-ending surgery, according to a Mets' press release.

Analysis: Perez has been bothered by the knee nearly all season, which has hampered his velocity and adversely impacted his already questinable control. Perez has been able to throw strikes early in games, but the tendinitis has prevented him from having the delay in his delivery, impacting the control. In addition, at around 40-50 pitches, a drop in velocity occurred due to the tendinitis in knee really affecting the delivery. With Perez, Johan Santana and John Maine all on the DL, and Livan Hernandez waived last week, the Mets now have one pitcher - Mike Pelfrey - who opened the year in the rotation. Perez is expected to make a full recovery and be ready for spring training.

News: Perez, who picked up his first win in six weeks Tuesday, stumbled while trying making a play at first base in the fourth, tweaking his injured knee putting his next start up in the air, the NY Daily News reports.

Analysis: Perez had spent two months on the DL with right knee inflammation, and he indicated after the game he hasn't completely recovered. The knee buckled as he covered first base, and the Mets will evaluate him daily before determining if he can make his scheduled Sunday start.
