News: Ponson has lost his spot in the starting rotation to Luke Hochevar, the Associated Press reports.

Analysis: The team was 1-5 in Ponson's five starts and he was demonstrating his usual poor component numbers that keep him off most fantasy rosters to begin with. He'll stick with the Royals, pitching in their bullpen.

News: Ponson was officially named the Royals' fourth starter on Wednesday by manager Trey Hillman, the team's official site reports.

Analysis: It's troubling to see the Royals pick Ponson, and his 9.58 spring ERA, for their rotation after the younger Luke Hochevar and Brian Bannister pitched well throughout the spring. It's probably a safe bet that Ponson won't be in the rotation by the All-Star break. He will make his 2009 debut in the Royals' April 10 home opener against the Yankees.
