News: The Kotchman trade to Seattle for Bill Hall and a player to be named is official, the Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: The Mariners get an everyday first baseman for a player in Hall who would have been a backup in Seattle. The Red Sox are stocked with corner infielders, thus could move Kotchman for Hall's versatile glove. It'll be interesting to see what the left-handed Kotchman can do in Seattle where the ball has been known to carry to right field.

News: Kotchman will be traded to the Mariners for a minor leaguer and another player, the Seattle Times reports.
Analysis: Bill Hall has been mentioned in reports, but there's no official word on whom the Red Sox will acquire in the deal. The Red Sox are stocked with corner infielders after signing Adrian Beltre and don't really have a place for Kotchman any longer. For the Mariners, Kotchman is an upgrade over their other first-base option -- minor leaguer Mike Carp -- but is a power downgrade from last year's first baseman Russell Branyan. Still, acquiring a player with upside for so little (assuming it is indeed Hall who is traded) is a nice move.
