News: Samardzija was recalled by the Cubs on Tuesday.
Analysis: He'll take over for Jose Ascanio in the bullpen, after working out of the rotation at Triple-A Iowa. Long term, it doesn't make much sense for the Cubs to continue bouncing him back and forth between starting and relieving, but that seems to be their prerogative for now.

News: Samardzija's off to a good start at Triple-A and could be next in line for a call-up should the Cubs decide to bolster their bullpen, the Arlington Daily Herald reports.
Analysis: Samardzija's been starting for Iowa, but given the struggles of the team's middle relief corps, the Cubs could decide to use him in that capacity.
