News: The White Sox requested waivers on Colon on Wednesday with the intention of unconditionally releasing him, the team's official site reports.

Analysis: Colon hasn't pitched since July 28 due to right elbow inflammation and it's unknown whether he would be able to return at any point this year. He had a 4.19 ERA in 12 starts for Chicago this season.

News: Colon was placed on the 15-day DL, retroactive to Saturday, because of swelling in his right elbow, the Chicago Tribune reports.

Analysis: Clayton Richard will move into the rotation as a result. Jose Contreras will start in Colon's place against the Twins on Wednesday.
