News: Perez had surgery to remove a loose bone and cyst from the back of his ankle, the Associated Press reports.
Analysis: He should be able to do his usual offseason regimen in December and start spring training on time.

News: The Cardinals called up Perez from Triple-A Memphis on Wednesday, replacing Brad Thompson in the bullpen, MLB.com reports.
Analysis: The Cardinals' closer situation just got that much harder to sort out. Don't look for Perez to get an immediate save opportunity, but if he pitches well in his first couple of outings, he'll be right in there.
