News: The Pirates may be leaning toward Karstens for the fifth starter's role after the right-hander threw five solid innings on Wednesday, according to the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review.

Analysis: "He threw really well," manager John Russell said. "We know what he can do. We're looking for consistency." Virgil Vasquez and Jason Davis are in the mix. Pittsburgh might also look to make a late spring acquisition.
