News: The trade of Akinori Iwamura opens up a potential opportunity for Rodriguez to play second base for the Rays next season.

Analysis: It's not a slam dunk for Rodriguez, however. First, the Rays must figure out whether they want Ben Zobrist to play second or right field, and some of that calculus depends upon when they deem Desmond Jennings ready for the big leagues. Rodriguez also has to prove to the Rays that he's ready, though that's partially implied by their acquisition of him in the Scott Kazmir deal.

News: Rodriguez is the player to be named later in the trade that sent Scott Kazmir to the Angels on Friday, the Orange County Register reports.

Analysis: He'll fit into the Rays' middle-infield plans a lot sooner than he would have with the Angels, but Rodriguez is set to report to Triple-A Durham, so look for Akinori Iwamura and Ben Zobrist to continue getting the at-bats at second base down the stretch. Iwamura is set to become a free agent this winter, so Rodriguez should get a long look for the starting job at second base during spring training.
