News: The MRI on Santana's left elbow showed bone chips, which will require minor arthroscopic surgery and sideline him for the remainder of the season, according to a Mets' press release.

Analysis: Santana is expected to fully recover and be ready for spring training. He had been pitching through a sore back and the elbow discomfort worsened the past few weeks, hitting an apex in his last start against the Braves. The NY Post reports that Santana had minor discomfort in the elbow during spring training but the Mets opted not to send him for an MRI.

News: Santana has been scratched from his start Tuesday due to discomfort in his pitching elbow and Mets' players seem to believe he will need season-ending surgery, the team's official site reports.

Analysis: Manager Jerry Manuel acknowledged being "terribly concerned," that Santana had experienced pain in the elbow in recent starts though "not at this level," the level he experienced in his most recent start, Thursday against the Braves. Santana will see Dr. David Altchek to have his elbow examined and that sound you hear is the panic in every Mets fan. Ed Coleman on WFAN added that Santana has been dealing with a sore back, not throwing between starts, and has seen a drop in his velocity. It's possible that Santana altered his motion to compensate for the sore back, causing the elbow issue, but more will be known following the exam.
